Space Planning
Finishing off a long week at TAFE and work, I've completed my space planning ready to be checked by my teachers tomorrow :)
I'm very happy with it - I feel like this is the first time I've really quite successfully used bubble and block diagrams to develop my space planning. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow!

Inspiration: Renzo Piano
One designer's work that inspires me is that of Renzo Piano. An Italian-born architect, and the winner of numerous design awards around the globe, Renzo Piano's designs are eye-catching and unique. I'll list a few of my favourites:
Beyeler Foundation - 1997: Designed as an art gallery/museum, the building
features a glazed glass roof throughout, providing indirect natural light in
all the galleries.
Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center - 1998: Built to be a cultural centre in New Caledonia,
the ten buildings stand between 20-28 metres in height, designed as a
reinterpretation of the traditional Kanak huts.
Niccolo Paganini Auditorium - 2001: This auditorium was converted from an old
industrial sugar refinery. Using the original form, dimensions and proportions,
walls were demolished and facades were replaced with large glass windows that
give natural light to the whole building, and provide views of the surrounds
from the seats inside.
I love the way that his designs fit into their surroundings so seamlessly. His use of glass to bring in natural light, and materials that are consistent with the environment are breathtaking and considerate. His designs are attentive to the users and their needs in a space, whilst also being very unique. One day I wish to express the same design integrity that he does.

Major Project Topic
I just read a blog of my classmate, Maxine, and realised that I also haven't said what my topic for my major project is!
I'm designing a Mental Health Facility (I'm open for suggestions for a name!) at the current Fair Trading building in Penrith, ground and mezzanine levels. It'll be a place where people can come to get information and support on mental health topics, including areas where they can use for retreat and relaxation.
It's so exciting, and I also can't help thinking THERE'S ONLY 4 MONTHS LEFT until we finish. Better make the most of it!

Catch-Up
There's so much I haven't posted about last week (and this week)!
So... Most of last week was spent modelling the Marcel Wanders Zeppelin Pendant (extra homework because I was late for class) in ArchiCad. It took me about 10-13 hours in total, the finished product is below, let me know what you think!
Besides that extremely difficult model, I've been working on the space planning for my major project. It's been a little bit fiddly working with the mezzanine level, especially because I want to open a void as wide as I can to let light in to the ground level. Slow in progress, but feedback from teachers have been good so far :)
This week we've had two things due: Concept Model presentation, and Site Analysis. I'm happy to say that both are finished! I'm finally catching up on work that I've missed, and next update should be interesting.
I'll leave you with the four concepts that I presented:
